Coach Kerry began coaching football at the age of 18 years old as a special teams coach for the Springfield Youth Club in 1984-1989. He was under Head coach Dr. Joel Mascaro. He won 4 division championships and 2 conference championships in the Bert Bell League: 70lbs team in 1984 & 78lb team in 1986. In 1989 he took over the Chris Arnold Basketball League in his hometown of Darby Township (Sharon Hill, PA). The name was later changed to Kerry’s Klassic Basketball League. In this league he coached the Orangemen on 9-11 years old, 12-14 years old, 15-17 years old and 18 & over. All 4 levels with a record of 366-120, winning 23 Championships.
Coach Kerry had a stint with girls basketball where he coached at Christ Our King in the CYM League from 2000-03. His teams won 3 championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
In 1997, Coach Kerry became the assistant coach for the J. Street Raider under Arthur Ames. In 2000, Coach Kerry became the junior head coach. The team went 8-2 losing in the championship 6-0 to the Bulldogs on a cold 20-degree day. The next year, Coach Kerry moved up to the senior division to take over a senior team that had only won 1 game in the last two years. Coach Kerry’s 2001 team went 9-0 before losing one of the strangest championships ever to the Bulldogs. His team bounced back the next year going 9-1, but this time beating those same Bulldogs in the championship. Coach Kerry has a record of 69-14-2 with 3 championships: 2002, 2005 & 2007. His teams are always well-disciplined, aggressive and tough football players. Coach Kerry has coached the likes of: Devon Still, DT Penn State, Kavon Brown, DT VA Union, Dewuan Wesley, Small forward University of New Orleans, Khadijah Rushdan, Guard Rutgers, Michelle Baker, Guard St. Joe’s, his nephew, Kevin Stewart, Guard IUP, Dakvies Howard, WR Wesley, Mychal McAdoo, CB Alabama A&M and CJ Jones, Boston College.
Coach Kerry has had a very strong impact on many young men and young ladies throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware. Coach Kerry wants his players to be like his favorite scripture: Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Wait= stay busy.
